Made of synthetic deoxycholic acid (DA), KYBELLA is administered by our highly trained Nurse Practitioner into the upper neck area. It acts like the natural DA in the body to dissolve fat, reducing the appearance of a double chin and bringing greater definition to the jawline.

KYBELLA works by destroying fat within the treatment area. While targeted fat cells will not regenerate, the remaining cells can become larger, making it important to maintain a healthy weight after KYBELLA injections to keep new pockets of fat from forming. What to Expect on the Day of KYBELLA

When you come into our boutique clinic for your KYBELLA treatment, the technician will make strategic markings for injection sites and will either administer a topical numbing agent or apply an ice pack to help with any pain or discomfort.

A typical session will usually have 20 to 30 (possibly up to 50) injections made under the chin. Once injected, the acid gradually begins to kill fat cells, which will be metabolized by your body over the next few weeks.

The entire process will take around 15 to 20 minutes.

KYBELLA® Recovery

What is the downtime with this treatment?

After your injection, you will be able to return home, although you should expect some temporary swelling and bruising, which will subside within a few weeks. The swelling will be at its peak the first few days following your injection, but this is very common. You can help lessen the swelling by using an ice or cold pack after your treatment. Other ways to help the swelling are applying a warm compress the first few days, wearing a chin strap for additional compression, and firmly massaging the treated area. You should take over-the-counter pain medication to reduce any pain or swelling during your recovery.

You will need to return for follow-up visits about a month after each session, but our Patient Coordinator will schedule your next appointment date. Do keep in mind that if you have post-Kybella treatment swelling, the swelling will have to subside before you can get your next injection. If you are still experiencing swelling before your next scheduled treatment, please let us know.
